land camera photos!

Last month I made a whole bunch of goals relating to my family and making memories before my brother and his family move to Germany for three years, one of which was to take get reacquainted with my land camera and take lots of photos. I think I can cross that goal off because not only did I take a bunch of pictures - I'm back to being obsessed with this camera!
Here are some of the photos I took last month. First - color pictures...
I have two problems with this camera, both of which are miniscule and really mostly my fault. One - the pictures take a little while to dry which leads to me being like "okay, what the heck do I do with this now?!" and a few times I've put away a picture I thought was dry that really wasn't. The image above, of my brother and my grandpa, is one that I accidentally put away prematurely. You can see where some paper residue is stuck on it (on my grandpa's arm, my brother's leg and beside his arm). It's a bummer, but I suppose it could have stuck in a worse place, like across their faces. Lesson learned, I will be waiting until I know 120% that a photo is dry before putting it away. I normally store them in the case of the camera, underneath the camera's directions, until I get home.

My second issue is actually completely my problem, not that camera's,  I absolutely stink at estimating distance in my head which inevitably leads to out of focus photos. I suppose it's just something that will come with lots of practice. All in all, the positives certainly outweigh the negatives. It's my favorite camera, no doubt!

And now for my favorites - black and white. I know I've expressed before that I'm not a real big fan of black and white (I'm a colorful person, obviously) but there is just something about this camera and black and white film that is SO beautiful. Next time I stock up on film for it I'll certainly be buying more black and white than color.
The last one is probably my absolute favorite, it's such a sweet photo. Photos like that make it totally feel worth it that I lug this big beastly camera around all day.

You can find the film here: black and white or color. If you're interested in buying a land camera check out your local thrift store, but if you're in a hurry there are always some floating around on ebay. I bought mine from Film Photography Project on ebay a year or so ago when they were having a sale. They do currently have a few in their webstore. They're slightly pricey compared to what you'd find at a thrift store or estate sale but they have been tested and come with batteries. Plus they have really great service that I can attest to! When I first got the camera I had no idea what to do with but it actually came with an instructional DVD and that's pretty stinken awesome if you ask me.

Hope you're having a fabulous day!
xoxo
