Last weekend Kevin and I drove to Salamanca, NY to meet up with Ivan and Elycia again! We had plans to antique and camp. Instead of telling you all about it in paragraph form both Elycia and I took a photo an hour on Saturday, here is mine...
6am // Just leaving the house. It was a rainy morning, and I had yet to eat breakfast so we stopped at Dunkin Donuts to grab a donut and some chocolate milk for the road.
7am // After a brief nap in the car I woke up to beautiful scenery and fog.
8am // Bear!! This is the first sign I've ever seen instructing me to watch for bears, I was pretty stoked.
9am // We arrived in Salamanca, NY, met with Ivan and Elycia and wandered around the town waiting for the antique mall to open.
10am // They opened at 10 but we were apparently too busy taking jumping photos to care!
11am // Getting our antique on! ;)
12pm // ...still antiquing.
1pm // Arrived at Allegany State Park, which is only around 15 minutes away from the antique mall. Shortly after we started driving through to look for a place to spend the night I spotted a weasel (errr, after looking it up we've come to the conclusion it was a mink)! I screamed at the top of my lungs (literally) with excitement. To be honest, I'm still pretty stoked about it.
2pm // It had been raining on and off all day and we decided to just rent a cabin for the night instead of worrying about what we'd do if it rained in the evening (sitting in the tent instead of around a fire wouldn't be much fun) The woman in the first part of the park led us on a wild goose chase looking for avaliable cabins. Finally we made out way further into the park and found another area to find a cabin. We were half stoked and half terrified of all the "do not feed bear" signs plastered around.
3pm // We got a cabin, finally. It was so precious. Four cots (which were actually REALLY comfortable), a fridge, stove and fireplace were inside and I don't think any of us could have been happier with our choice to rent a cabin instead of camp.
4pm // Yeah, this photo would be Kevin and Ivan showing us how they would protect us from bears if we happened to see any on our hike up to the bear caves.
also 4pm // On the trails there were lots of slugs mating. (When we got home I looked more extensively into this, and was truly intrigued. It's pretty interesting if you ask me!)
5pm // We drove down the the lake. We all oooh-ed and ahhh-ed over how gorgeous the view was and decided it was perfect to take jumping photos in front of. (Aiy yi yi, like every picture of Elycia and I ever is of us jumping!)
6pm // Cooking our dinner!
7pm // Ready to chow down. Oh my gosh, it was so delicious. I planned on taking embarrassing photos of everyone eating corn on the cob, perhaps to make up for how ridiculous I look while eating it with corn all up in my braces, but it was so tasty I didn't even take a breath let alone pick up my camera!
a little bit later but still 7pm // We drove over to the lake to watch the sun set. It was so beautiful.
8pm // This is only shortly after the photo of the sunset was taken and was actually right behind me while I was looking at the view of the sunset. There was something beautiful to look at no matter which way you turned!
a little bit later but still 8pm // After the sunset we headed back to the cabin, had a fire and devoured some pizza. It was the perfect end to a perfect day!
Can't wait to meet up again Elycia!xoxo!
