No, not the blog. Or my business. I'm talking about the original dainty Squid. She turns four today! As much as I want to say "Wow, it feels like just yesterday we got her", I also feel like I've had her forever.
Last year for Leaf's birthday I shared his story so now it's time to share hers.
Squid came into our lives three and a half years ago. We had just gotten home from visiting my brother in Seattle and Kevin and I were out towards the mall just wasting a Saturday when we decided to stop into PetSmart just to look around. In the few days leading up to this I had been saying I wanted a kitten and drooling over kitties on petfinder. Before we went in I jokingly asked if he would buy me a kitten, he said yes, of course.
We fawned over all the little kitties in their disgustingly dirty cages. Most of the cats were sick and had over flowing litter boxes. It was really really sad. We left shortly afterward but as soon as we got to the car I asked Kevin again if I could have one, this time he said no. I begged and begged! After about ten minutes he finally agreed and we went back in to pick a cat!
I remember browsing over the kitties but quickly coming back to the kitty named "Alexis". She was in the bottom cage on the very left side of the cat area. We called the shelter and the owner came up to PetSmart and sold us "Alexis".
Squid is really shy around new people but extremely loyal to those she knows well and loves. She sleeps under the covers with me in the winter time and taps me on the arm when I'm working and she wants pet. Her signature move is the roll flop. She does kind of a somersault into flop where she'll lay and just stare at you until you pet her belly. She always acts like it hurts to meow and often just opens her mouth, sticks her tongue out and makes a tiny squeak. She's the perfect big sister to all the other cats. Once when Leaf was chewing on something he shouldn't have been she went over and smacked it out of his mouth (I don't think I've ever laughed so hard!!)
I love that kitty so so so much!!
xoxo!

On the way home we changed her name to Squid and the rest is history!
